Serenity now!

This is great. The music is so fitting, and it just completes the whole infomercial feeling. The animation is sublte and extremely simple, but also largely effective. It totally adds to the whole atmosphere, and I think is perfect for the style of movie. The little titles which pop up are well timed and the jokes are actually pretty funny. From the relatively small file size, I was inclined to think it was going to be something really short and crappy, but you've managed to squeeze a fairly decent time slot out of a sublime file size.

Well done.

Thanks for watching!

Been spending most my life...

...living in an Amish paradise...

I can't believe you fitted all this into a 300kb flash file. That's worth high marks by itself. I think what has happened here is that for once, someone trying to say something, has said it without it sounding disjointed and meaningless. The dialogue actually serves purpose, and it's not just like someone saying something like "only one choice, no future" or some other random connotation towards the Amish life style.

It's really charming to watch, and the music really sets the mood. I like how you've got the sort of flickering effect playing over the movie, which kind of looks like the old film serials from the 50's. The character's design is fresh and unique, and it really looks quite professional.

Cons: Voice acting is a bit muffled at times, could be clearer. And also, it is a rather obscure subject, one which I don't think many people would relate to or understand, save for Amish people themselves, but chances are they'd never see it.

Good movie, top marks from me.

Thanks a lot

I liked it...

It was pretty good. You get high marks from me because I'm a huge Doom fan. I think the file size could be considerably smaller, and I attribute it to the assumption that you didn't compress your audio. Some of the action scenes are really cool, a personal favorite being when the Marine pulls out his plasma rifle and wastes a few demons with Crystal Method pumping in the back ground. The final shot of the rocket slowly flying towards the Spider Mastermind was brilliant.

Only thing I'd complain about is the inclusion of the Mancubus. Most would know it didn't appear until the second game.

But other than that I think you did a great job. The music was well chosen and the animation was smooth enough that it didn't draw attention to itself, which is good considering that you were limited in scope of what you could achieve.

LilDwarf responds:

Wow, good review. Thanks! Unlike popular belief, all my audio is cut and imported .wav and them compressed mp3 at 16kpbs I assume that's the way to compress it; I saw it at the flash help page, if not please let me know @__@ I'm glad you liked all the actions scenes. I added the mancubus just to add a bit of variety to the movie :P

...

Needs more B-Movie references. And just because it has a crab, space crab and all that, doesn't save it.

Can you explain to me just what this is about? Any other movie similar to this in terms of random content gets blammed, yet you've made a fairly broad series of these, and they've all seen the light of day, over and over. It just...doesn't have a point.

FattyWhale responds:

i have no idea what you are saying

What the...

As I said before; I don't get it. And you're lying, you don't respond to all the reviews, because you didn't respond to my last review.

High marks for Audio cause I like the tune.

FattyWhale responds:

uh...maybe I didn't get to it yet

I liked it.

Not bad. I liked how you've mixed the Metal Slug sprites with the images from Resident Evil. Most impressive is how you managed to almost make the 2D elements seem 3D by having them pass behind objects. I must have missed out on the first part, but after seeing this, and liking it, I'll check it out. You've done some good work with the sound and music, it is actually pretty eerie and genuinely creepy in parts.

vixian responds:

thank you :)

Wasted opportunity...

I was hoping this was going to be a serious movie, but it just ended up being like another Madness/Stickdeath movie. I think it would have been alot more interesting if you went with the Noir setting, using all the heavy, cigarette burnt monologues and played it over the Worms type gameplay, or something like that. Hell, even replacing the characters from the game with the Worms would suffice. As it is, it's the same thing we've seen 500 times. It's like downloading skins for Counter Strike, Quake 3, etc; For a short while you feel like it's fresh, but underneath it's still the same thing you've been using for the past 3 years.

Don't get me wrong, you've animated it well, but I'm just over these shallow, meaningless kill-fest movies, which serve no point other than to be a haven for constant violence. The whole bullet-time/slow motion dive was only cool when, well, either Neo or Max Payne were doing it, all those years ago...

It isn't the type of movie it looks like it's going to be. And it's a good concept, it could have been so, so much more.

Jack-Mace responds:

a good and hounist review. i agree with you though...but hell... it already done, and i cant chance it anymore.

...

Wow, talk about bad taste.

FatBadger responds:

WOW WHAT A HOMO AM I RIGHT???? HELP ME OUT FELLAS.

Quick review and quick question

Not bad, it was pretty interesting. Better than a lot of the crappy sprite movies that get blammed daily. Had a decent soundtrack. It just seemed to be a bit similar in plot to all the others. Sonic and Mario working with Kirby and characters from SNES games, etc...

What's the name of the track from the part at the start when Goku/Gohan turns up infront of Cell, Freiza and Majin Buu? I've heard it in a lot of DBZ flash movies.

CheveLoco responds:

Well that was the whole point of the movie(like the first one) to show all the stuff we're all tired about when we watch a sprite movie...and more importantly..how there seems to be always movies about Megaman or Mario and the usual Sonic vs Mario Fight..

that song, it's the original one from the DBZ intro...

Missed the point...

These things are only funny when the speech is sped up. When it's at normal speed, it's boring. That's how the whole "X in a Nutshell" thing works. It should be considerably shorter too.

I love how the reviewer above me gave it a 7 for interaction. Nice work...

Wonchop responds:

I mumble a lot, so if I sped it up then it would've been even less understandable.

I'm a business, man.
